The Umbwe Route is one of the more challenging and less-frequented routes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is known for its steep and direct ascent, which requires a good level of fitness and previous high-altitude trekking experience. The Umbwe Route typically takes 7 days to complete. Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of the 7-day Umbwe Route:

    • Elevation: 2,940m (9,646ft) to 3,950m (12,960ft)
    • Hiking time: 5-7 hours

    • Hiking time: 7-8 hours to reach Uhuru Peak, 4-6 hours descent to Mweka Camp This is the summit day, and it involves a very early start. You'll ascend in the darkness and reach the summit, Uhuru Peak, before sunrise. After celebrating your achievement at the summit, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for the night.
    • Elevation: 3,100m (10,170ft) to 1,640m (5,380ft)
    • Hiking time: 3-4 hours
